The European XiA project is working to provide training in the interoperability of healthcare information systems
The European XiA (Xpanding Innovative Alliance) project, of which Kereval is a partner, has just launched a ‘community of practice’ bringing together 71 participants – universities, hospitals, businesses and organisations – from 23 European countries (Germany, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Norway, Portugal, etc.) to strengthen the skills required to implement interoperable digital health across Europe.
Its aim is to prepare healthcare professionals, institutions and businesses for advanced interoperability standards such as HL7® FHIR® and the European electronic health record exchange format EEHRxF.
This project supports the practical implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) Regulation, the implementing rules for which are gradually coming into force between now and the end of 2028.
It plans to train more than 10,000 professionals through online educational content, micro-certifications and immersive learning experiences.
Kereval, in partnership with IHE-Europe, has, as a first step, defined the objectives of the training programme on IHE profiles and interoperability testing; they are currently working to identify the steps and courses required to achieve these objectives.
The courses will cover the frameworks and methods for interoperability testing and will present the IHE profiles as practical guides for implementing interoperability, as well as the Gazelle testing platform (used during IHE Connectathons). They will help participants understand the concept of ‘end-to-end interoperability testing’ (data accuracy, workflow interoperability) and provide details on the use and catalogue of use cases (xShare).
